Orange Red Rose

Orange Red Rose
Acrylic on Paper, 7" x 7"
Complimentary colors can really make a painting dramatic!  I love the way this one came together. I used watercolor paper, put a varnish medium on it, applied an under-painting, then started to draw the rose leaving some of the under-painting showing. That's why there is so much texture.

Four Pears

Four Pears, acrylic, 8 x 10"

I started painting with acrylics again! This started with an underpainting and then I added the image on top. It's much better in real life - you get to see all the colors coming thru. I matted and placed in my bin at the MAA Wheaton Gallery. So I started a few more and will show those next time.

Lilies

Lilies, Acrylic, 20 x 16"

These are asiatic lilies. They have a wonderful smell and last farely long. A new day brings an open bud. But watch out for those stamens. It will stain everything including your fingers and fabric. I usually pull them off before that happens. I like the light and shadow in this painting.

Pink Tulips

Tulips, Oil, 9 x 12"

More flowers! After a few days tulips in a vase tend to sag and droop. I like that, makes them less formal. As you're painting them they can change too. The bud gradually opens and before you know it your still life has completely taken on a new look. I guess I can't call it a still life!

Carnations

White Carnies, Oil, 6 x 6", sold

I love flowers! I try to have a fresh bouquet in our kitchen all the time. It brightens my day and helps when I need something to paint. Carnations last a long time. I usually start with a large bouquet in a large vase and as they die off I cut the stems and place in smaller containers. Centuries ago flowers had meanings and were picked to convey a message. White carnations mean remembrance. check out the meaning of flowers, www.aboutflowers.com/flower-a-plant-information-and-photos/meanings-of-flowers.html.
