Red Grapes

Red Grapes

I much prefer to paint from a real still life than a photo. Colors are always different. For larger paintings setting up the composition takes time.  When I just want to sit down and paint I usually grab something from the kitchen like this one.

Crayons

Crayons
6" x 6", Oil

Crayons bring back some good memories for me.  I am sitting next to my father coloring a Santa workshop scene for a contest and asking him if that was the right color to use.  I think I was 10 or younger.  It's funny how some objects can release vivid bits of the past and transport you back to long ago.   Well, I won second place and received a Chatty Cathy doll.  I was disappointed I didn't win first place only because the price was a new wardrobe.  The winner added cotton balls to Santa's beard!

Another bird's nest

A New Start
6" x 6", Oil
I love bird's nest!  If you ever find one look closely at the construction.  It is amazing how all the small pieces of grasses fit together.  I found one that had a long blue plastic strand (from a blue tarp)running thru it.
